Perempuan dalam Novel Saman: Kajian Gender Simone De Beauvoir
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study discusses the image of women in Ayu Utami's novel Saman using Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminist perspective. This study aims to reveal how female characters represent the struggle against patriarchal norms that limit women's freedom, especially in terms of body, sexuality, marriage, and life choices. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach, with reading and note-taking techniques applied to the novel text. The results show that female characters in Saman are depicted as self-aware, critical, and striving to assert their existence as free and independent subjects. The image of women in this novel no longer positions women as passive figures or dependent on men, but as subjects who dare to determine the direction of their own lives. This finding aligns with Simone de Beauvoir's view of women as the Other in a patriarchal system, with the potential to liberate themselves through awareness and choice.
